The Sexual Impulse Disorder Residential Program is a secured residential program specifically designed for children and adolescents between nine and 17 years old. Patients have emotional and/or behavioral problems, as well as sexually impulsive behaviors that require them to be in a secure, 24-hour supervised therapeutic mental health setting.
Children and adolescents in the Sexual Impulse Disorder Residential Program have been unable to function successfully at home, in school, and in their social relationships. They are accepted into the program to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their families and their sexual acting out problems, and to develop healthier and more adaptive behaviors. The unique design of the residential program provides the most current “state-of-the-art” sex offender treatment techniques, including cognitive restructuring, relapse prevention, trauma-informed care and family systems work.
Our objectives are to:
- Provide sexual offender treatment resulting in freedom from sexually deviant behaviors.
- Treat and stabilize co-morbid psychiatric and trauma issues.
- Examine and modify patterns of deviant sexual arousal.
- Develop victim empathy and remorse.
- Develop an understanding of sexual acting out as a mood-altering behavior.
- Establish positive anger management techniques.
- Provide appropriate psychiatric treatment to stabilize condition.
- Develop relationships skills.
- Assist the families in being vehicles for change.
- Discharge the individual to the least restrictive environment or home as soon as possible.
The program facilitates a multi-disciplinary intensive treatment program that includes psychiatric assessment and monitoring, individual, group and family therapy, psychopharmacology and recreational therapy, as well as a variety of multi-disciplinary and substance abuse groups.
Eligibility Requirements
The program serves children and adolescents between nine and 17 years of age who:
- Exhibit sexually impulsive behaviors.
- Display sex-offending behavior that is beyond the scope of outpatient treatment.
- Are adjudicated or non-adjudicated.
- Have significant emotional and behavioral problems.
- Require a secure, mental health setting.
Referrals to the Residential programs may be made by Department of Human Services, Community Mental Health agencies, juvenile courts, hospitals, schools, case managers, therapists, psychiatrists, physicians, parents and family members. Housing: The residential program is housed in an 10,000 square-foot group home where each youth has his own bedroom. There is an approximate one to five, staff to youth ratio which allows staff members to effectively implement behavior plans and monitor the youth at all times.
Staff members routinely receive on-going specialized training and professional consultation. Clients are involved in multiple counseling groups as well as individual therapy on a weekly basis. Treatment plans emphasize relapse prevention, understanding the cycle of abuse, sincere victim empathy, accepting full responsibility, emotional development and improving social skills.
